Hi everybody.
 
What a great turnout for the picnic!  The boat ride was great and as usual we had wonderful food (even if
there were three pots of beans)!  Our Service and Hearing Dog tour should be fun.  Remember the DG is
attending our meeting next Monday.  See you at the zone meeting September 16 at Plainview.

Annual Picnic at the Motl’s
 
Present:  Tracy Braaten, Julie Monson, Kathy McGuire, Dorothy Tomten,

Julie Levinski, Pat Quinn, Gena Benson, Pam Caldwell, Jenny Kluver, Sue

A wonderful pontoon ride was again provided by Captain Motl.  Hats off
to you sir&  There was a flourish of entertainment by Tracy at the
closing of our adventure.
 
Dining was an awesome experience once again with so many delightful
choices.
 
Meeting was called to order by President Sue Nielsen.
 
Pledge of Allegiance was recited to the flag on Kathys T-Shirt.

Sue reported on Correspondence received.
 
Secretary and Treasurers reports were approved
 
Mary Rennells gave a report on the Garvin Brook benefit held on Sunday
August 24.  Four Members from the club helped serve the food.  A motion
was made that this could be used as a Service Project.
 
White Cane days is September 13th.  Four sites are available for our
club.  They are:  Rochester Fruit, Midtown Downtown, KWIK Trip Huff &
Sarnia and the KWIK Trip at Mankato and Broadway.  Each place will have
2 members working from 9-1 with the exception of Rochester Fruit which
will be 8-12.
 
September 20th is the Hearing Dog Tour in the Cities.  Meet at Elks
Parking lot at 7:30 AM.
 
Smart Town card raised $17.55 for the month of May and $15.80 for the
month of June.
 
November Zone meeting  we host.  Maureen shared that this will be a
combination meeting of Zones 1 & 2.  Maureen talked to Elks about food 
they will get back to her.  Maureen will also get the date.
 
September Zone Meeting is at the Plainview Legion @6:30 on Tuesday
September 16th.  Roast beef dinner & dessert.  Sign up sheet was passed
around.
 
Diabetic Expo will be held at Krysko Commons WSU on November 8th.  There
has been a request for a $20 gift from each club for a raffle.  Maureen
made the motion that we give $20, Pam C. 2nd the motion.  Suggestion was
made for a Watkins basket.
 
Sandy L gave a report on the Ice cream social for Project COMPASS that
was held this past Friday 8/22/08 at Lake Park Lodge.  Sandy reported it
was a success and commended the help that she had.  Served approximately
70.  Next year the Ice Cream Social will be Friday August 28, 2009, Mary
will have it put on the club calendar.
 
Next meeting will be 9/22/08 which will be the District Govenors visit.
Maureen will be ordering Pizza from God Fathers including a dessert
Pizza.  She will also bring refreshments.  Mary made a motion that each
member pay $5 with the club picking up the extra if that happens to be
the case.  Julie L 2nd the motion.
 
Sue shared some Baby Boomer Quotient trivia from the Lions site.
 
Julie M made a motion for adjournment.  Gena seconded. August 25, 2008

Double Good Banana Cake

3 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. soda
1 pkg. (4 serving size) Instant banana cream pudding
1.5 cups (3 med.) mashed ripe bananas
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/3 cup milk
2 tsp. rum extract
4 eggs

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.  Generously grease and flour 12 cup
fluted tube pan (non-stick finish pan, too).  In a large bowl, blend all
ingredients; beat 3 minutes at medium speed.  Pour into pan and bake for
60 to 75 minutes until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Cool upright in pan for 15 minutes; turn onto serving plate.  Cool.
Spoon glaze over cake.
Glaze

1.5 cups powdered sugar
2 T. butter or margarine, softened
1/2 to 1 T. rum extract
1 to 2 T. milk

Blend until smooth.

I made a thicker icing but do whatever you wish.
