Iram Leon-Fool’s Five guest speaker faces lifes toughest battle with grace
The Lewiston Fools Five Road Race is filled with thousands of stories. One of those story’s belongs to Iram Leon. On a November day three and a half years ago Iram was celebrating a friend’s birthday when his life changed forever when he was diagnosed with brain cancer.
A runner prior to his diagnosis, Leon said he quit for awhile after tests and surgeries didn’t turn out as he had hoped. Last week, Leon ran the 8 mile Fools Five course. As recently as last month he won a half marathon. And while running may be his therapy, his inspiration and life perspective comes from his 7-year-old daughter.
Leon said he was impressed by the Lewiston community and was happy he received an invitation to participate in the Fools Five. Leon is truly running for his life. At the time of his diagnosis three and a half years ago, he was told he could expect to live another 4 to 8 years. So far his cancer is stable. He said adjustments to his medications have gone well. In fact, he is looking forward to life returning to a higher level of normalcy.
Iram is a very courageous and humble young man who is handing his disease with an incredible amount of grace. He was scheduled to return to his doctor’s office last week for follow up appointments. We trust and pray things went well.
