Police in Fountain City, Wisconsin are investigating the death of a woman found at a Fountain City establishment Monday night. The woman, identified today as 21-year-old Brooke Baures, was found in a food elevator, or “dumbwaiter” at the Wing Dam Bar and Saloon after police received a 9-1-1 call.

Police Chief Jason Mork stated in a press release that the 9-1-1 call came in at 7:55 pm. Upon arrival, first responders found Baures dead in the food elevator adjoining the kitchen. According to Mork there was no indication of a criminal act, however, the investigation remains open for the purpose of investigative follow-up and an immediate autopsy was ordered.

Baures, from Chetek, Wisconsin, was a senior at Winona State University where she was majoring in social work and was a member of the WSU Gymnastics team from 2011 to 2014.

A candlelight vigil will be held in Baures’ honor at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, at the Alumni Gazebo in the center of the Winona State campus. Students, friends and those wishing to honor Baures are welcome to attend and pay their respects.

WSU Athletic Director Eric Schoh said, “Brooke was a leader on that team and a very talented gymnast. This is a tremendous loss for our community, and we ask that you keep Brooke and her family, friends, coaches and teammates in your thoughts.”
