Most educational model aviation programs are done by interested teachers, model aviation hobbyist that volunteer their time, or are part of a larger program such as Science Olympiad.  Recently I discovered there was a private business, Hobby Quest that runs model aviation programs. Hobby Quest is operating mainly in the Northeastern part of the United States but they do have an office in the St. Louis , Missouri area.

Their attractive and well organized website gives lots of details on their programs.  Established in 2002 as “The Aviation Club”, presently they are active in 300 schools with over 7000 students a year. I spoke on the phone with the founder, Boaz Givon about Hobby Quest, it was immediately apparent his passion for model aviation and teaching this to young people.  Boaz was a classroom teacher but he had so many requests from schools for him to teach his model aviation classes, he decided the only way to fulfill the request was to make this a fulltime business.

In my opinion there can be advantages to this approach in that an effective curriculum can be developed and a training program for the instructors. Hobby Quest has these materials and also is selling some hobby materials such as airplane kits.  Partnering is also a priority with Hobby Quest and they are working with organizations such as EAA Aeroscholars, more details about this partnership are on the Hobby Quest website.

Note: AMA Cub is a registered name of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and Sig Manufacturing

Delta Dart is a registered name of Midwest Products Co. Inc.
