FEBRUARY 2004 NEWSLETTER

CANDI KOHNER
Our Annual Meeting of the Congregation will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2004 following the
worship service. Plan to stay for this very important yearly meeting.

Al Kleinsasser and the First Baptist Church have agreed to have Pastor Al at Grace Presbyterian
Church 1/5 time. His office hours at GPC will be Wednesday 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. The Presbytery
Committee on Ministry will meet on January 29, to approve Al's contract with us. Hopefully, we will
have Al on board to complete the Pastoral Team on February 1. PRAISE GOD!

I will be out of town from February 21 through March 6. If you need Anything please call
Doug, (687-4601) Pastor Al (452-9133) or Elayne. We are all happy to direct any requests or concerns to
the correct person.
Please keep several members of our church in your prayers, Lois Gordon, Doris Horst, June
Connolley and Elsie Ring. Lois continues her battle with cancer and Doris, June and Elsie have all been
hospitalized during January. Also please remember Loel and Dick the two Caretakers

In closing I would like to relay something to you that I feel pertains to everything that I have
written above. It is as follows:

If God brings you to it,
He will bring you through it.
In happy moments, praise God.
In difficult moments, seek God.
In quiet moments, worship God
Yours in Christ,
Candi

DOUG ROSENDAHL

Grace Presbyterian Church Mission State

: Because we are unconditionally loved by God,
we are called to do the same in thought, word and
deed with our family, community and the world.
There is nothing wrong with this statement,
but maybe we need to look at it from another
pespective. Sometimes looking at something we take
for granted, or are so used to seeing or reading from
another viewpoint, provides a fresh or extended plan
of action and understanding.
When we look at where we are in our own
unique spiritual development and understanding, we
can gain insight and aid in our mission by looking at
it through the four "L.'s":

Live fully
Love unconditionally
Learn constantly
Leave a legacy of a better world

Think and pray about it. Talk with two other
people. Ask yourself, "What am I-going to do personally for Christ's Church here at Grace in terms of
the four L's?"
We are all part of the TEAM: Together
Everyone Achieves More. See you in church!
Doug

How was the tree in 2003?

Our Mitten Tree did well! '. We collected: 38 pairs of gloves, four

SPECIAL OFFERINGS

Joy Offering total was $479

Christmas Eve Offering - to Catholic Workers' House - $ 254
Thank you for your generous giving.

CATCH THE SPIRIT! SOUPER SPIRIT!

Every dollar dropped in a soup pot helps people in need feel the power of God's love.
That's something to cheer about!!!
On Sunday February I, we will join other churches and organizations around the country to
collect money to help the needy. This program, started by youth at a Presbyterian church in South
Carolina in 1990, has grown both in the number of groups participating and in the amount of money
collected. Since going nationwide in 1993, more than $20 million has been raised for people in need.
Also important is the fact that young people who participate in the program are learning the true
meaning of giving instead of receiving. Young people from our church will be at the
doors of the Sanctuary as you leave the worship service. They will have soup kettles and you are
encouraged to give at least $1 as you leave. Money collected will be given to Winona Volunteer Services
to help with their food shelf program. We will report the total amount of our giving to the national
headquarters of Souper Bowl to be included in the grand total for the country.
Catch the Spirit!

HUNGER FUND

On February 15 we will hand out baby food jars that will contain 1/4 cup rice - the total amount of
rice some people have for a daily meal. Cook the rice and see how little some people have to eat.
Show your thanks for having more than enough to eat by placing the empty jar in a prominent place in
your home so all members of your family will be able to put coins or bills in the jar until you return it
to church on February 29. The money collected will be sent to the Presbyterian Hunger Fund to be used
to help needy people around the world.

PER CAPITA
Remember - Per Capita is what our church pays for EACH communicant member per year.
This year's amount, per member, is $21.39,  Please pay your share so it will not be necessary to take money
from the regular budget to pay our share to Presbytery.  Thank you.

TIME: Where does the time go? I just didn't have enough time. I wish time would move
slower. I used to say these things when I was working. I was always searching for "more time". Now
that I'm retired, I only think of time when I have sat too long and certain parts of my anatomy have
fallen asleep. It's strange how our perception of time changes as we get older!

Session met January 22 and you are probably wondering what this has to do with "time". For
one thing, session voted on a "time change" for worship service to begin February l„ 2004. Regular
worship will begin at 10:45 am with Sunday School worshiping at the usual time. We did this to be
nice to Pastor Al Kleinsasser, who will have a little bit more time now to get over to Grace from the
Baptist Church. I'm so excited that Pastor Al is coming! Personnel Committee has spent a lot of time
on this.
The answer to the next question is: "It's about time". Yep, we will hopefully have a part time
janitor in the very near future. Session voted "yes" to Corporation's suggestion for a part time janitor
twice a month. The rest of us aren't totally off the hook, because we will still need cleaners for the
fourth and possibly fifth Sundays of the month. But, this is a start.
Be sure to take the time to thoroughly read your Newsletter and see what all the Committees
are doing. It will only take a little bit of time.
Even though it seems that we never have enough "time" to do the things we want to get done.
aren't you glad that God always has enough "time" for each of us?
Mary

Our subscriptions to Presbyterians Today are coming up for renewal. All those who wish to
continue receiving our national church magazine, or any who wish to start receiving it, please give a
check to the church - marked Presbyterians Today for $11.25
This magazine is full of interesting articles- about Presbyterians around the world, answers to
questions of faith and interpretation of scripture, materials   for personal devotions, stories for enjoyment
and it helps keep us informed about how active Presbyterians are in many ways and in many places.
Try it - and find out how interesting Presbyterian news can be.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER
Church Women United will sponsor the World Day of Prayer on Friday March 5 at noon at Central
United Methodist Church. The service will be led by women of various churches and will be followed
by a homemade soup and bread lunch. Everyone is invited to attend

PW Thank Offering Equaled   -$260

Part Time Janitor
By recommendation of the Corporation Committee, the Session has approved hiring a part
time janitor to clean at the church the first and third weeks of the month. The ORC will continue
to clean the second week of the month as an ongoing local mission project. We will also have
members of our church volunteer to clean the fourth week (and fifth week if necessary).
For those of you who have said you would rather help to pay someone to clean than have to
clean the church, here is your opportunity! If you would like to donate to the janitorial fees, please
mark your check as "Janitorial Services" and hopefully we will gather enough money to support
the janitorial expenses for this year.
On the other hand, if you would rather clean, here is your opportunity to do so. Just sign
up on the volunteer list for the last week (or weeks) of any given month.
This will be a great solution for those who want to or do not want to clean at the church

Lenten Bible Study
This year the Lenten Bible Study will focus on the Gospel of Luke. It begins
Wednesday, March 3 at 6:00 -7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. It will continue for four more
Wednesdays at the same time. Dates are:  March 10, 17, 24, and 31.
Last year participants brought snacks to share. Would you like to do that again this
year?
Everyone is welcome. Please bring guests!
