Christmas Program Review
Sunday, December 16 was the annual Children's
Christmas Program. This year The Light of God told the story of Jesus'
birth, bringing God's light into the world for all who will believe in
Him. The theme song told us how we can have that Light with us everyday
of the year, and that the Light still shines. Fifteen children and
youth, ages 1 - 18, participated in the program. Following the sloppy
joe lunch, prepared and served by the fellowship committee, the children
walked to Watkins Manor. There they sang songs from the program plus other
Christmas carols for the residents who were eating in the dining room.
Children and adults enjoyed the program! MANY BIG THANKS to Tammy Engstler,
writer and director of the program, and to Dan Barr, the piano accompanist
who really makes the children SHINE!!

Sing Unto The Lord A New Song
Hundreds of years ago music ofthe church was produced by priests and
selected choirs who spoke and sang in Latin.
Thank Heavens for the Reformation in Europe which brought about a number
of hymns in the language of the
people. Martin Luther was to give the greatest motivation for congregational
singing. Eight hymns (four written by
Martin Luther) were published in Wittenberg, German, in 1524. Luther,
most famous for "A Mighty Fortress Is Our
God" and "Away In The Manger," found help in looking to God as his
fortress and strength. Psalm 46 was the
source of his inspiration for "A Mighty Fortress."
How marvelous to realize that singing is not merely an exercise in
service music, but rather an expression of music
from the soul of each worshiper.
Thank you for your prayers,
cards and expressions of
sympathy on the death ofoul
father, father-in-law and
grandfather. We are truly
blessed to be a part of such a
caring church family.
