JULY 2006 NEWSLETTER

Church Calendar of events
Volunteer Schedule
introduction of our new pastor aug 1

June 21st was the first day of summer. We also have entered the season of the litergical
church year called "ordinary time". This time after Pentecost lasts for almost half the church
year - part of June, through July, August, September, October and most of November until the
beginning of Advent. Ordinary time is represented by the color green, which symbolizes
growth. It is significant to note that we grow all year, but we may forget this during the
summer months when many are taking vacations and taking time off from many activities and
responsibilities that they are normally involved in throughout the year. God does not take time
off from us and we need to be reminded not to take time off from Him and the work we are
called to do to continue our spiritual development and growth.
If we are to grow we need to take advantage of this "time off" to develop and continue
habits we may have started before this period of ordinary time. There is nothing ordinary about
this time except that it is a time when we don't notice the important things we do all the time
that may become routine. It is anything but ordinary at Grace Church. Even though some
committees take time off in the summer and things seem to slow down, we are a very active
church. Discovery program for children, and adult bible study on Wednesdays, youth mission
trip up north, preparing the manse for new renters, and other activities you can check out in this
newsletter. Preparationsfor saying thank you and goodbye to pastor Al and celebrations to say
hello and welcome to Pastor Jim Scaife and his family; a dinner theatre with an original radio
drama, and the preparation of a Grace Presbyterian cookbook.
Take advantage of being involved in these and other activities to grow spiritually and
becoming involved in doing God's work, and developing your faith. Read a good book, keep
studying and reading your bible. Start and/or continue with daily devotional readings. Take
time to grow by prayer, and meditation on how God is touching your life and how you can
touch the lives of those you love, and those who need us. Sing, laugh, love and enjoy the
relationships and work with others you come into contact with everyday as you discern the
work God would have us do. Oh yes, don't forget, we are open on Sundays too. See you at
worship where we not only praise God, but affirm that "we are all in this together".

Review of Bethlehem Village VBS
Five days in Bethlehem Village, June 4-8, was clearly an exciting week of fun and learning about life during the time of Jesus' birth in Bethlehem.  The days included: a gathering of singing and dancing, tribe meeting times, visiting the marketplace where shopkeepers told about their products and let children do hands-on activities, daily drama that took place near the village well and taught us how Jesus' birth affects us all, visiting the census taker, playing games on the village playground, and eating food from that time.  Sixteen adults and youth, all dressed in costumes, led the VBS.  Eleven children attended.  The mission project was for children to each bring a  toy to add to the boxes that will be sent to Operation Christmas Child later this year.  Thank you to all the adults, youth and children who attended Bethlehem Village!

An offering was taken on June 11 for the mission project, Operation Christmas Child.  A report on the amount collected will be reported in the next newsletter.

Discovery Club and More
Discovery Club started on Wednesday, June 14 with  five children attending.  Adult Bible study, Chasing Daylight, started on the same day.  We started with a 5:00 supper and then attended the classes.  Discovery Club is open to all children ages 5 - completed grade 5.  Meeting dates for the summer are June 21, June 28 and July 12.  Youth group for students in grades 7-12 will be meeting with Janet Nustad during the same times.  Please contact Janet for further information.
Contact Pastor Al for information on the Adult Bible Study.  Contact Pam Lica or Kathy Rosendahl for information on Discovery Club. All activities are over by 7:00 p.m.

Garage sale brigs in $815.86

after seeing an informative CD about the work the
Ministry of Hope is doing in Malawi, our youth were
inspired to hold a huge garage sale with refreshments
and donate the proceeds to this mission. The
Ministry of hope received a check for $815.86 thanks
to the efforts of your youth and generous donations
from the congregation

In true Grace Presbyterian fashion, they organized a
committee, divided the work, and had a great time
during the project, unfortunately, the day of the sale
was cold and rainy. Their spirits weren't dampened,
however, and they paraded up and down the rainy
sidewalk wearing signs indicating the sale was being
held inside. What didn't sell was held for another
sale a few weeks later. The leftovers were packed up
and donated to an Indian reservation organized by the
Dakota Homecoming committee.
The enthusiasm and hard work these nine young
leaders showed is a lesson for us all that a few people
can make a great deal of difference. The Ministry of
Hope is an impressive mission project primarily
committed to making a difference in the livers of
children in Malawi. After learning more about the
Ministry of Hope, several youth and their parents are
considering a trip to Malawi in four years.
Special thanks to all who organized, moved tables,
donated sale items, baked, cleaned, shopped and
helped in any way to make the garage sale a huge
