Church Calendar of events
Volunteer Schedule
Summer Worship Schedule
begins on Memorial weekend
(May 25) and continues
through Labor Day with
worship at 9:30 a.m
Vacation Bible School
There is still time to sign up your child
and their friend for our four day VBS, The Miracles of Jesus, on June 15-18
(Sunday through Wednesday) from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Children ages Kindergarten
- grade 5 are encouraged to attend with friends. Each day will include
music, drama of the Bible story, crafts, snacks, Bible memory and games.
Please sign up on the list in the fellowship hall.
Operation Christmas Child
For nearly ten years our church has been involved
with sending boxes of Christmas gifts around the world to children who
would not normally receive a Christmas gift. Individuals or families
who wish to fill a box may take one from the table in the fellowship hall.
Each box contains information about Operation Christmas Child and instructions
for filling the box. This year a member of our church, who would
like to remain anonymous, wishes to pay for the shipping costs of all boxes
that our church fills!! That means we hope to have even more boxes
to send this year!! Consider filling two medium-size boxes instead
of a larger box. That way, two children will receive gifts!
Please label your filled boxes and return to church by late October so
that the C.E. Committee will get them to the collection center on time.
Thank you for your participation in this exciting and fun mission!
FROM THE DEACONS ...
The deacons would like to thank Ben Weiner
for taping the worship services during this past year so that the shut-ins
are able to hear the sermons in their homes or apartments. This is
a great way to help shut-ins feel a part of the church family while hearing
the Gospel proclaimed and great hymns of our faith. Thank you, Ben!
We hope this taping service will continue with a new high school student
to be announced later.
Bulletin Board
Check the bulletin board for information and prayer
requests for Postville, Myanmar and China.
The Presbytery asks for prayers for Postville after the
government raid there. The effects of the situation are
wide spread. Church World Service tells of their efforts
in response to needs after the natural disasters and
states that they have received help from the
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance program. We are
involved in their efforts to help because of our support
of the Presbyterian Church (USA), especially One
Great Hour of Sharing.
Joys and Concerns
Jerry Lowery is at home recuperating and having physical
therapy after knee replacement surgery in May.
Lori Hoerig is doing well in her recovery from surgery last
year. Her husband is back at work. It was good to see her
at church recently.
Rick Martin recently underwent heart surgery and is now
home, doing better each day. Please keep the Martin's in
your prayers.

A youth group from a Presbyterian church in Woodbury, Mn will be staying
at our church while they work at
Whitewater State Park to help in restoring the park after the floods.
Plans are being made for this group and our
youth to get together on June 27 at Scaifs. On Sunday the Woodbury
youth may be at church.
Our youth leave early June 29 for their mission trip to South Dakota.
An adult group will be here at Grace in June to work with Habitat for
Humanity.
Native Americans will be in town for the Dakota Gathering early in
June and we hope to have some from the
Presbyterian Church in ND come to a meal and a time to meet with members
of Grace.
MISSIONS
The Mission Committee and Session approved the following payments to
Mission Programs:
1. $2, 961.35 to Winona-Wabasha Interfaith Disaster Relief. This
was the
final payment from our special offering for disaster relief after the
faH
floods plus matching funds from our Permanent Mission Fund.
2. $350 to Bunia Orphanage in the Democratic Republic of Congo for
chickens
3. $400 to Del and Deb Braaksma - our missionaries in Sudan
BIRTHDAY OFFERING
The total giving for the PW Birthday Offering was $ 139.
The money will go to help Presbyterian churches and
schools with educational programs in the Democratic
Republic of Congo and a weekday school at a Lakeview
Presbyterian Church in New Orleans, LA. Thank you for
your gifts.
Adventures in Reading
We are entering final countdown mode for our summer mission project
for ELL children. As you've probably heard, we hoped to have ten
children who are learning English as their second language join us
for a
"hands-on" reading program this summer. Each session would include
a
field trip or a special visitor (such as Tara and her wool-spinning
equipment), and each child would have a teen mentor to read with
her/him. The first problem with this plan, as Pam will tell you, is
that
Kathy W. doesn't know how to count. The kids are so excited about the
program that I couldn't bear to turn them away. I think we'll have
13
children. The second problem is that finding teenage mentors is not
as
easy as one might think. (Please pray for this.) And the third problem
is
that all of the children need rides to and from church. Please consider
whether you might be able to help drive on the Tuesday and Thursday
mornings of June 17, 19, 24, and 26; and August 5, 7, 12, and 14. If
so,
please contact Kathy Weiner.
Home Delivered Meals
Thanks to: Dan and Mickey
Barr, David and Janina
Kennebeck, Thelma Wieser,
Walt and Dorothy Gilbertson
and Holly Martin. They
delivered meals for Home
Delivered Meals in April. This
is the first year for quite awhile
that we had enough volunteers
from Grace Church to meet the
need. Thank you.
Circle I will not meet until September
Circle II will meet on Tuesday, June 10°' at 1:30 p.m. at the church.
Leona Thiele is Hostess, Mary
Rennells will give the Lesson and Thelma Weiser will do Devotions.
