Dear Church Family
In the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 's Gospel (5:1-12), Jesus
really talks about going the "Extra Mile." Certainly, this is a very
important part of our Christian walk and experience. Let's consider
going the extra mile at Grace during this month of September. Here
are
some potential goals/activities to work on in going the extra mils...
"Extra Mile" Goals for September:
___I will endeavor to the best of my capability to set aside each Sunday
Morning for Worship with my church family at GPC, not under a
sense of obligation/duty, but because God really desires my
fellowship and I need this time with God and other Christians. "Let
us
not give up meeting together...but let •us encourage one another...
"
(Hebrews 10:25)
___I will think and pray about someone in my sphere of influence
that I could invite to come with me to "check it out." "I am not ashamed
of
the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation of everyone
who
believes... " (Romans l:l6a)
___I will seriously think about coming on Wednesday evenings for
supper at 5 and Discovery Club/Adult Bible Study at 5:30.
Hey, it's just an eight-week commitment beginning September
2!5'! It will give you a "spiritual mid-week pep up"! "And let
us
consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good
deeds. " (Hebrews 10:24)
I will faithfully give of my resources back to the Lord. "...God
loves a cheerful giver. " (2 Corinthians 9:7b) Just think about what
would happen
if we were all faithful in reaching these goals? Here's an illustration
to challenge our thinking called "Missing Workers";
A baseball pitcher went to the mound. He looked around and
asked, "Where's the center fielder?" Someone said, "Oh, he had
company and couldn't come today. Then he asked, "Where's the short
stop?" Someone else told him,"He's gone fishing. It was a pretty
day and he hadn't been fishing all month." Then the pitcher asked,
"Where's the second baseman?"
"Oh, he's at home, he was too tired to come today." The next day at
practice the center fielder asked, "How did the game go yesterday?"
He was told, "We lost 17 to nothing." Quickly came the reply
from the center fielder, "Boy, we need a new pitcher, don't we?" No,
they just needed everyone in the game!
Not so unlike the church, we need everyone to show up for the game.
Everyone's contribution is an important one. Please consider
going the "Extra Mile" this month! "Extra, Extra, do something about
it!"

Bring Us Your Hungry
O.K.. It may not be quite the same as the quote on the statue
of Liberty, but you get the idea. Due to the success of the
stewardship dinner last year, (Loel asked for seconds) the
committee has decided to have another stewardship dinner on
October 15 this year. Eating seems to be the one thing that
everybody in our church can agree upon. We like it and we do
it frequently. It has become addictive for many of us.
The
party will start around 5:00 p.m. with appetizers and then have
a selection of homemade soups. As with last year, there won't
be any attempt to pressure anyone at the dinner for a gigantic
pledge, so you can come and eat and feel safe. The goal is to
have a great meal and enjoy each other's company. (I'm not
sure who has to sit next to Walt, but I'm sure we can get that
worked out and everybody else should have a good time.)
