“One Barn, Two Dreams” |
Papa’s Barn Boutique |

| Rich
retired in 2003 and his dream was to restore the farm
buildings.
This is the “Meurer” home farm where Rich and his 6 siblings were
raised.
Rich's love for farming and “The Family Farm” spirit was deeply
rooted.
He takes great pride in his home place and wants it to be a place for
family
and friends to enjoy.
Rich
began fixing the original barn soon after retiring. He had it
sided,
then he built new windows and doors. He repaired or replaced
parts
of the floor, painted trim, doors and windows. He made
screens
too for all the windows, to enjoy fresh air in the barn. Next he
began the process of tuck pointing the original stone walls. This
was a long and tedious job, taking many hours and lots of
patience.
Rich was working on his “DREAM” While he worked on the barn he also
restored
the “milk house,” the building his father used to store his milk in
until
the milk truck would come to pick up the milk to take to the creamery
for As Rich worked on the barn, “the girls” his wife, Skip, his sister Helen Willers, sister-in-law LaVonne Meurer and niece Shary Meurer, began to see a different structure. The girls had a vision of a gift shop, a craft store, oh maybe “a boutique.” They had for years dreamed that it would be fun to open a shop “someplace” ……”someday” maybe this was the “place” and maybe the day was sooner then they thought. Would this be their “DREAM” too? One Barn, Two Dreams. It was time to come up with a name for the “boutique”… Rich had 8 grandchildren that all called him “Papa” so it seemed fitting with all the work he put into the building to call it “Papa's Barn” (now there are 10 grandchildren that call him Papa, along with some of the nieces and nephews) Papa's barn opened in October, 2004 with local and distant crafters and artists bringing their products for us to sell. It is a consignment shop that features, crafts, collectibles and antiques. Our product line has expanded greatly in the two years we have been open. Among the items we carry are wood items of all kinds, from bird houses to fine furniture to restored furniture. We have items made out of old barn wood and new wood. We have a number of metal lines of unique products, some for inside and some for outdoor display and uses. We have jewelry, candles, air fresheners, quilts, table runners, florals, books, rugs, stained glass, framed pictures of all types, antiques and much more. Outside we have fresh flowers, a wonderful display of iron works from trellises to furniture and more. We have a full line of custom made outside wood items, from bird feeders and houses to a custom made patio bench made with iron wheels and horse shoes, a item you will have to see to believe. After just one show, stairs had to be installed to expand to the second floor of the barn. The outside space too has been expanded. The grainery is the next building to be worked on, to have ready for the Fall, 06 show. This is a barn for all seasons, in the Spring we are alive with things to brighten your home and help with decorating. We have flowers, silk and growing to enhance your home and yard. In the Fall we have pumpkins, corn stalks, gourds, fall flowers, a full Christmas shopping area and lots of snowmen. We welcome new crafters to call and join future shows. Along with “Papa, Rich's help, we get lots of help and support from our children or all of this would not be possible, especially niece Carrie Fairchild. Please come and visit us and enjoy our beautiful setting and shop. Helen,
LaVonne, Shary, Skip and Rich |
