Sculptures
I create a variety of sculptures, many of which are one-of-a-kind pieces that grow out of the inspiration of the moment. Sometimes, though, I experiment with a theme and produce a series in which I play with color, shape, and decorative motif. In most of my sculptural work, I mix glass with metal or other media (wire, beads, feathers, ....) to play with the textures and variations in reflectivity that they offer. In the end, many of these pieces may remind you of the basic forms from which they sprang -- a vessel, a basket -- but they have left these functional forms behind. They are now decorative sculptural creations to be displayed and enjoyed.

Sculptural Vessels Each of these sculptural vessels begins as a hand-blown vase with a cane-drawn or powder layout design. Once the base is completed, I design an egg-shaped top to compliment the shape and design of the base. The base and top are cold-assembled into a single piece joined with glass or metal wafers. Vessels in this series are available by special order only. |

Squid OK, so they aren't really squid, but they look squid-like. Each of these is cold-assembled from simple glass forms. The tentacles are of copper with a mottled patina.

Hanging Baskets In this series, I am trying to capture the primitive essence of a vessel that might be used in some mythical tribal culture or, perhaps, might be imagined by a child at play. I use a simple open form in blown glass, reminiscent of a seed pod, as the heart of these sculptures. I then weave the form into a basket of copper, brass, or steel wire, along with lampworked beads, feathers, and other artifacts. The sculpture hangs from a wooden framework designed to compliment the primitive feel of the piece. The resulting sculpture is about 18" tall.
