![]() Ways To Help
Taking Volunteerism Into the 21st Century Ralph Waldo Emerson captured the essence of Red Cross volunteerism in this way, “The only gift is a portion of thyself.” A portion of thyself to help a fire victim,a portion of thyself to give your blood to save lives, and a portion of thyself to help someone with a need for first aid are all ways people in Winona County give to their neighbors. The American Red Cross is a volunteer led, humanitarian organization. Without volunteers the Winona County Chapter, like every other chapter, could not function. We could not offer any of the services that are an important part of the Red Cross. With that in mind, it is true to say that we are always looking for volunteers to help us fulfill our functions. We will try to match your interests with your volunteer function, we will train you, and we will appreciate you. You bring to us experience, skill, dedication, clout, passion, and an unparalleled ability to reach out to the people of Winona County. As we begin a new century the needs of our society are changing—and so are the responsibilities, needs, and identity of our volunteer force. We are busier, therefore we must use our time more effectively. We are living in a stress-filled world, therefore we need to help relieve stress wherever we can. In other words, we need to join an organization that can help us to make our volunteer commitment count in a most meaningful way. And that organization is the Winona County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
