Objectives:

a) Examine the vocal and physical methods used to artistically present the written word to an audience.
b) Explore how to choose and analyze appropriate written materials for presentation for different audiences.

Assignment Due Dates

All assignments and presentations for this class have specific due dates. I expect all assignments and presentations on the assigned day. I will not accept assignments past the due date. If the assignment is not finished please turn in what you have. All written assignments must be typed (all computer users : the font may be no larger than 14 Point, the margins no larger then one (1) inch and please spell check and grammar check. )

All presentations will occur on the assigned day unless changes have been approved by the instructor before the presentation day. Failure to attend class on a presentation day will result in a failed presentation.

Class Attendance:

Attendance for this class is mandatory. In most classes attendance is an important element of success in the class, especially when the students are presenting their work to their classmates as individuals or as part of a group. It is unacceptable to not share in the work.
Each Student will be allowed Two (2) Unexcused Absence.

After this the following Penalties will Apply.
First Absence 10 Points off Final Grade
Second Absence 10 Point + 20 Points = 30 Points off Final Grade
Third Absence 10 Point +20 Points + 30 Points = 60 Points Off Final Grade
Each additional absence reduces grade an additional 50 points or one half letter grade

Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class. All students not present will be marked absent. Students arriving after this time will be marked present but are considered late. Ten (10) points will be lost for each time a student is marked late.

Any student who, because of a disabling condition, may require some special arrangements in order to meet course requirements should contact the instructor as soon as possible to make necessary accommodations.

This course satisfies the requirement in: Fine and Performing Arts

a. explore the language, skills, and materials of an artistic discipline;

Students will
a) explore how to use their voice and body in the artist interpretation and presentation of the written word.
b) learn to analyze the written materials in preparation for verbal presentation to an audience.

b. use the methods of an arts practitioner to actively engage in creative processes or interpretive performances;
Student will explore the verbal and physical skills needed to present the written words of an author to an audience in an artistic presentation exploring the emotional contents of the written documents.
c. understand the cultural and gender contexts of artistic expression;
Students encouraged to present materials from diverse sources. There are no guidelines restricting the choice of materials available to the students. They are free to use written materials for any culture, time period or genre.
d. engage in reflective analysis of their own art work or interpretive performance and respond to the works of others.

Each student will do a self analysis on each of their major projects. They will also fill out a brief written response form on all of their classmates presentations. These response forms will be collected and given to the student presenter to help them better understand the choices they made for their presentations.
