Introduction to Technical
Theatre
The first of the design/tech classes that gives the student a basic vocabulary, and understanding about backstage theatre practices. Using hands on projects, the students learn to put words to objects and processes of technical theatre. All student in this class also have a lab requirement that involves a production crew assignment

What is
Theatre
A general education course that examines the people, processes and theories used in western theatre today by relating common student experiences to make the art of theatre more understandable. There is also a brief survey of the history of western theatre from it's beginnings in ancient Greece to todays modern world theatre.

Interpretation

This general education course introduces students to the study of prose, poetry and dramatic literature through performance. Through multiple presentations students learn to better understand and orally present the written word.

Play
Production
This class is for the theatre minor and the education majors interested it the theatre education minor. It is a survey of the procedures and techniques used when mounting a high school production excluding directing and acting. The students study all phases of the production process from play selection based on audience interests through casting, the design process, publicity and promotion, scheduling of the rehearsal and performance dates and ending with production and post production analysis. As part of the class assignments all members of the class take an active part in the technical aspects of the Capstone production

Make Up
for the
Performer
A one hour hands on course that gives the students a basic introduction to 2dimensional and 3 dimesional make up techniques. This course contains many realized projects that gives the student the chance to study the concept and the execution of a make up design.

Design
Communications
The first of the theatre design sequence that gives the student an introduction to the media, techniques, and theories used in all areas of theatre design. Time is also spent studying the basics of script analysis for the designer and design concept development.

Stage
Management
A one hour course taught to one to four students interested in stage Management. All students also have a production crew assignment in management that must be completed before a final grade is submitted for the class. Meeting weekly the students do exercises to help them preparethe for their production crew assignment.

Design II / Scenery and Costumes Using many of the basic design skills learned in 207 plus addition new techniques the student begins to develop theoretical designs in scenery and costumes based on their personal areas of interest. Scenery students do theoreticalscenic designs using perspective renderings, white models and colored models. Costuming students dp theoretical costume designs using different rendering techniques. All designs are supported with concept statements and documented research. All Final projects in scenery and costume deisgn are evaluated and if selected by the instructor will be entered in the ACTF region V regional design competition and exhibit.

Design II / Lighting and Sound This design /tech class focuses on the art and advanced technology used in the design of lights and sound for the theatre. The course goal is to expose students to design by doing small hands on projects using light, sound and color to enhance and interpret the complexity of the human nature and art.

Computer Applications for Theatre Design After a basic introduction to personal computer usage students will use assorted drawing and painting programs to explore the possibilities of computer usage for theatre design. Design areas include scenery, costumes, lighting and graphics for publicity and promotion.

Scene Painting An introductory course to the art and practice of painting scenery for the stage. In a laboratory setting, students will design and execute projects based on lecture/demonstrations that teach basic scene painting techniques.

Capstone Production
Project
A culminating senior project in directing, acting or design required of all theatre majors. The class is divided into two sections, in class comprehensive analysis of their area of interest and demonstration of the sum of their learning to date by the conception and successful mounting a public production. Extensive research and self analysis documents the entire production that is ultimately video taped.

Orientation to College Life

This semester long course is strongly recommended for all incoming first year students. Over the semester, students are guided in their transition from high school to college life to try and make their first semester a successful beginning of their college career. Through class discussions, individual and group projects, guest lecturers and other activities students are aided through their first semester on the campus. My sections are primarily for students interested in the fine and performing arts.
