Chiefs earn “road” victory
The Winona Chiefs amateur baseball team came away with a 5-4 “road” win over the Tri County Tremor in Twin Rivers League action at Gabrych Park on Wednesday night.
The Tremor are unable to play night games at home, so in a rare switch, Tri County was the home team, but it didn’t stop the Chiefs from continuing to play well at the friendly confines, with the help of some missteps from Tri County.
Travis Hengel and Garrett Block scored on a throwing error charged to Lund in the fifth to account for Winona’s first two runs, then Block again was the beneficiary of Tri County miscues, advancing from from first to second and then third on a pair of wild pitches after singling before Jeff Schultz and Zach Nelson each delivered run-scoring singles in the seventh.
Despite a fourth-inning blast surrendered to Tyler Lund, Ryan Meyers locks six strong innings to earn the win, while Nelson tossed two 2/3 frames as a bridge to the Sabermetric Southpaw, Lee Trocinski who earned a one-out save.
Brandon Beech, Owen Burnikel and Schultz all finished the game with an RBI apiece.
