Hoeppner, Winona girls slip by Northfield

The Winona Senior High School girls basketball team built on a six-point halftime lead by scoring the first fourteen points of the second half, but cooled offensively before holding on for a 68-61 win over Northfield on Friday.

Hallee Hoeppner scored a game-high 22 points for WSHS (7-4, 5-3 Big Nine), while Abby Winter added 12 and Maria Appicelli poured in 11 off the bench.

Danneka Voegeli was a force inside all night, pulling down nine rebounds for the Winhawks. WSHS featured four players with all least five boards, as Voegeli was joined by Hoeppner’s seven, six for Winter and five for Eden Nibbelink.

Grace Touchette paced Northfield (6-6, 5-3) with 19 points, while Kaylyn Kidd had 13 to go along with eight rebounds and Vanessa Dimick had 11.

Northfield has now lost five of six.
