Dover-Eyota girls down St. Charles in battle of winning streaks
In a game featuring two teams which had won a combined 24 games in a row going into the game, it was the top-ranked Class AA West Dover-Eyota girls basketball team which came away with its 17-game winning streak intact as they defeated St. Charles 66-44 on Friday.
St. Charles (12-7, 7-6 Three Rivers) scored the first five points of the game, but Dover-Eyota stormed right back with the next 10 and the Eagles never looked back, outscoring the Saints 66-39 the rest of the way.
Madison Nelson and Megan Hintz proved too much inside for St. Charles, as Nelson led Dover-Eyota (18-1, 13-0) with 17 points to go along with four rebounds, while Hintz scored 16 and pulled down a game-high nine boards.
Brandi Blattner finished with 11 points and Danielle Higgins had 10, with both accounting for seven rebounds apiece.
Carolyn Shanahan scored a game-high 18 points and corralled eight rebounds for St. Charles, which had its eight-game winning streak snapped, losing for the first time since January 6 to Cotter. Haley Ludens added seven and both Anna Hershey and Katelyn Ihrke poured in five for the Saints.
