Danielson, St. Charles hold off P-E-M boys
Dayton Danielson scored a game-high 20 points to lead the St. Charles boys basketball team past Plainview-Elgin-Millville 60-49 on Tuesday.
St. Charles (18-4, 12-4 Three Rivers) jumped out to a 7-2 lead early, but were outscored by P-E-M 18-9 the rest of the first half and trailed 20-16 when the teams headed for the locker room.
The game was nip and tuck much of first nine minutes of the second half before the Saints started to pull away, thanks in large part to superior performance at the free throw line.
St. Charles nailed 15-of-18 from the stripe in the second half, compared to just 10-of-17 for the Bulldogs.
Harrison Roessler was the Excel Images Impact Player of the Game, registering 15 points and six rebounds off the bench. Justin Ruhberg added 14 points and Luke Leistikow pulled down 11 rebounds for St. Charles.
Alex McGuire led P-E-M (8-13, 7-7) with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Brady Ziebell contributed nine points and four boards.
St. Charles outrebounded the Bulldogs 35-19 in handing them their fourth consecutive loss, while the Saints extended their winning streak to three.
