Plainview girls hold off Chatfield in a thriller
Karlie Gilbeck scored a game-high 11 points as the Plainview-Elgin-Millville girls basketball team overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat Chatfield 46-43 in a match-up of second and ninth ranked teams in the Class AA poll on Tuesday.
With P-E-M (16-4, 12-2 Three Rivers) up one with less than 30 seconds to go, Chatfield forced a jump ball with control of the possession arrow, but Sydney Gould was unable to score. After a pair of free throws, Chatield had one last shot, but a loose ball was covered up by Sarah Hart to secure the victory for the Bulldogs, which snapped a seven-game, regular season losing streak to the Gophers.
Hart and Morgan Shindelar both scored eight and Chloe Holtz added seven for P-E-M.
Gould led Chatfield (20-3, 13-3) with 10 points off the bench, while Kirsten Keefe and Megan LaPlante each scored nine.
With the loss by Chatfield, Dover-Eyota clinched the Three Rivers Conference West Division.
