Hintz tops 1,000 point plateau as D-E girls drop Stewartville
Megan Hintz surpassed the 1,000-point plateau as the Section 1AA West top-ranked Dover-Eyota girls basketball team routed Stewartville 85-58 in a nonconference game on Tuesday.
Hintz led all scorers with 20 points, and with a free throw late in the first half, eclipsed 1,000 points for her career as the crowd at Dover-Eyota High School erupted. Hintz was swarmed by her teammates and was presented with a commemorative ball by D-E coach Brian Harris.
The game began with a Caitlin Hughes 3-pointer for Stewartville, but from then on, the Eagles dominated as they rattled off 21 unanswered points to seize control.
Madison Nelson added 17 points for Dover-Eyota (24-1) while Brandi Blattner contributed 14 as the Eagles won their 23rd consecutive game.
Emily Scruggs led Stewartville (4-19) with 13 points, with Libby Christenson and Hughes each had eight. The Tigers have now lost 11 of their last 13 games.
Dover-Eyota will close out its regular season on Friday when they travel to Plainview to take on the Section 1AA East second-ranked P-E-M Bulldogs, which HBC Sports will cover as an Extra Point event.
