TV 25 has a trio of Chiefs games this weekend

HBC Sports has baseball, baseball and more baseball coming your way this weekend with a hat trick of Winona Chiefs amateur baseball games live from Gabrych Park.

The games kick-off tonight at 7:15 when Winona (8-5) plays host to Stewartville-Racine Sharks (8-4) in Twin Rivers League action, and conclude with a doubleheader with Sparta Miller which gets underway at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday.

The Chiefs have slipped a bit offensively, as the team batting average has fell to .230, but are led by the trio of Travis Hengel, John DeMarais and Zach Benson.

Hengel leads Winona with a .381 average in five games, DeMarais paces the squad with three home runs and Benson has driven in 18 of the team’s 48 RBI.

While the Sharks only have two batters with averages over .300 for the season (Shane Mlenar .346 and Sean Hohmeister .333), Sparta Miller (18-5) will arrive at Gabrych boasting of an eight-game winning streak where they’ve outscored opponents 8.7 to 1.6. Chiefs hurlers Lee Trocinski and Jesse Van Brunt will certainly have their hands full, but the tandem has combined for a 2.01 ERA¬† and 49 strikeouts in 67 innings on the hill.
