On-deck: Saint Mary’s volleyball takes on St. Catherine

SMU CardinalsThe Saint Mary’s volleyball team opens its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule on Wednesday when it hosts St. Catherine at Saint Mary’s Gym.

SMU (7-2) is coming off of a split against UW-Stout and Wheaton at the Loras Invitational in Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday in which Macki Fadness delivered 30 kills, and equaled her career-high with 18 against Stout.

Fadness wasn’t the only strong contributor on the offensive side, as Brittney Hanson and Tayler MacVey combined for 86 assists, while Lex Krogstad and Jenna Sullivan had 26 and 19 digs against Stout. Sullivan also contributed 11 digs and three blocks in the contest with Wheaton.

For the year, Fadness leads the Cardinals with 121 kills, Cassidy Bittle is next with 85, while Tayler MacVey and Brittney Hanson have done an outstanding job setting up Fadness with 177 and 167 assists, respectively.

On the defensive side, Sullivan and Krogstad have teamed for 243 digs to keep the ball alive, while Molly Urban and Sara Lind have each blocked 19, followed closely by Bittle’s 17.

Saint Mary’s owns a stellar 3-1 mark at home and host a St. Catherine (5-2) which has won five of its past six matches, but is 0-2 on the road. The Wildcats are led by Shanee Herd’s 6.22 digs per set and Amber Zeiher’s 1.08 blocks per set, each of which are good for second in the MIAC.
