Tonight on HBC: SMU volleyball takes on St. Olaf

The Saint Mary’s volleyball team is off to it’s best eighteen-match start in program history, and will host St. Olaf at Saint Mary’s Gym tonight at 7 p.m..

Though SMU (15-3, 4-1 MIAC) split matches last weekend to snap its seven-match winning streak, they have won eight of nine and are tied with Concordia for third place in the conference.

Four Cardinals collected 10 or more kills against St. Benedict last Friday, led by a career-high 15 for Sara Lind, while Molly Urban posted back-to-back career-highs for kills last weekend with 13 against the Blazers and then 14 on Saturday against Concordia.

Macki Fadness leads the team with 219 kills, and has posted a career-best 18 three times for the season.

Tayler MacVey registered career-highs for assists (29) and digs (17) against St. Benedict, her fifth double-double of the year.

Brittney Hanson paces the squad with 362 assists, coming off of performances of 31 and 15 last weekend, and has posted 20 or more 12 times in 2015.

Saint Mary’s has lost just four sets over its last nine matches.

St. Olaf (8-12, 0-5) have lost a season-high nine consecutive contests after opening the season with eight wins over its first 11, and have not won since defeating Grinnell 3-1 on September 13.

Kathryn Johnson leads the team with 169 kills, while Kersten Bork (333) and Reni Erickson (255) have combined for 588 assists and Abby Black has 385 digs.

The last time these two teams met, Saint Mary’s locked up a berth in the MIAC playoffs for the second straight year with a 3-0 win over the Oles last October 29.

Pre-match coverage gets underway at 6:45 with the ball going in the air at 7 p.m. tonight, only on TV 25.
