High School Hoops: Cotter boys take on Lake City
The second High School Hoops match-up of the season will pit the Cotter boys against Lake City in a nonconference tilt on Monday.
Lake City claimed the Hiawatha Valley League Gold championship last season with a 23-4 overall record, and return its key contributors for the 2015-16 season.
Brady Kuchinka scoring (18.3 points per game), assists (107) and minutes (843) a year ago, and has a stable of talent around him.
Jesse Oliver placed behind Kuchinka with 10.8 points per game, while Eli Custer led the Tigers with 9.7 rebounds and averaged 8.1 points, Mitch Marien was good for 7.7 points per and Marc Kjos hit 42.4 percent of his 3-point field goal attempts.
Cotter opened last season with a three-point win over Fillmore Central, but managed just five the rest of the way to finish 6-21.
The Ramblers lost Josh Forst and Henry Killen to graduation, and will need to replace their production. Forst led Cotter with 7.3 rebounds per game and dished out a team-high 30 assists, while Killen averaged 7.0 points and 4.5 rebounds.
Jonah Spiten paced the Ramblers with 13.8 points per game and knocked down a team-best 49 3-point field goals, and will be joined by Hunter Andre’s 5.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per.
Lake City defeated Cotter 77-60 last December 4 in the lone match-up between the two teams last season.
