On-deck: Rochester Century v. Winona boys hockey
The Winona Senior High School boys hockey team will host Rochester Century at Bud King Ice Arena in Big Nine action on Thursday.
Since a 4-1 defeat to Owatonna on December 8, Winona (0-5, 0-4) have been outscored 17-0 in losses to Faribault and Rochester John Marshall, and will look to rebound against a Century team which has not won on the road this season.
The Winhawks are led by Andre Russeau and Joe Brinkman with three points apiece, while Justin Waldera has accounted for WSHS’s lone power play goal in 15 attempts (6 percent).
Matt Schoh and Cassidy Cyert have shared the goaltending duties, and have combined for 170 saves and an 8.06 goals against average.
Though winless away from home and outscored 17-6 over the final two periods for the year, Rochester Century (3-4, 1-3) have won two in a row, with 2-0 and 2-1 triumphs over Austin and Dodge County, respectively.
Will Zmolek leads the Panthers with seven points, while Eric St. Marie and Nick Aney each have five.
Cole Walters has a 3.75 goals against average to go along with 88 saves, while Jackson Killinger has stopped 64 shots with a 4.00 goals against for Century.
