High School Hoops: P-E-M v. Cotter boys basketball

The Plainview-Elgin-Millville and Cotter boys basketball teams will square off in a Three Rivers Conference cross-over tilt at Gostomski Family Gym on Thursday.

P-E-M (4-7, 4-4) had won three in a row to to pull its record to 4-4, but have since dropped three in a row, the last of which was a 62-41 home defeat to Hayfield on January 5.

Barron Holtz leads the Bulldogs with 18.1 points and 4.5 assists per game, while Brady Ziebell goes for 13.5 points and a team-best 8.2 rebounds. Gavin Folkert scores 12 points per.

P-E-M are dangerous from beyond the arc, as David Penrose, Carson Root, Folkert and Holtz have connected on 44.5 percent of their 3-point attempts (57-for-128) for the season.

Cotter (4-8, 1-6) had also been streaking, but after three consecutive wins, fell at St. Charles 86-63, also on January 5.

Noah Nachtigal led the Ramblers with 14 points, while Josh Salwey and Jonah Spiten each accounted for 11.

Spiten leads the team with 13.2 points per game. Hunter Andre accounts for 9.5 points and 7.2 rebounds and Brennan Schaffner hauls in 5.7 boards per.
