High School Hoops: Andre’s late 3 lifts Cotter past P-E-M in OT thriller

Cotter led by thirteen at the half, but Plainview-Elgin-Millville fought back to force overtime before Hunter Andre drilled a 3-pointer with 2.4 seconds remaining to give Cotter a thrilling, 55-52 overtime victory at John Nett Recreation Center on Thursday.

Down 29-16 at the break, P-E-M (4-8, 4-5 Three Rivers) stormed back to make it a three-point game and took advantage of a pair of Brenna Schaffner missed free throws when Galvin Folkert connected on a 3-pointer that led to a time out with 2.4 seconds left in regulation that forced the extra session.

With under a minute left in overtime, Cotter (5-8, 3-5) were up 52-50 when Carson Root darted into the lane for a lay-up to tie it up with 24 seconds remaining.

The Ramblers held the ball for the final shot, and Andre’s three sent the crowd into a frenzy as the Bulldogs scrambled to get off a last-second heave.

Root led P-E-M with 12 points.

Jonah Spiten scored a game-high 20 for Cotter, while Andre finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The Ramblers have won four of their last five.
