Tonight: Northfield v. Red Wing boys hockey
The Northfield Raiders will invade Prairie Island Ice Arena to take on Red Wing in a Big Nine boys hockey match-up on Thursday.
Northfield (9-5-0, 9-1-0) will enter the game as the second place team in the Big Nine, and have averaged eight goals per game on its current three-game winning streak.
The Raiders sports a trio of players with more than 20 points on the year, led by Ryan Torbenson’s 27 (10 goals). Jacob Halvorson leads the team with 18 goals (five on the power play) and has 23 points, while Nicholas Kvernmo has accumulated 21 points on the strength of 14 assists.
Five other players have at least 11 points for Northfield, which has outshot opponents 506-338 and are 5-2 on the road this season.
Ryan Bielenberg is 9-5 with a 2.86 goals against average, has one shutout and made 298 saves.
Red Wing (6-9-0, 6-2-0) have been outscored in all three periods this season (61-48), but have won two of three, including a 6-1 win over Winona on January 12 and are fourth in the Big Nine.
Tyler DeFore leads the Wingers with 18 goals and 25 points, while Sam Hanson is second with 20 points and paces the squad with 13 assists and Seth Cushing is coming off of a two-goal performance against Winona and has 19 points for the year.
That trio has accounted for nine of Red Wing’s 12 power play goals.
Zachariah Harding has a 4-5 record with a 4.09 goals against average and 270 saves, and Noah Bolland is 2-4 with a 3.95 goals against and has turned away 194 shots.
