Northfield throttles Red Wing

Grant Sawyer notched a hat trick and the Northfield boys hockey team scored four power play goals in a four-minute span of the second period to coast to a 9-0 victory over Red Wing at Prairie Island Ice Arena on Thursday.

That quartet of tallies on the man-advantage came as a result of a five-minute major against the Wingers, and Northfield (10-5-0, 10-1-0 Big Nine) never looked back as it took a 7-0 lead into the final stanza.

Sawyer scored one goal in each period and Ryan Torbenson finished with two goals and three assists for the Raiders.

Red Wing (6-10-0, 6-3-0) had outshot Winona 61-16 on January 12, but could not find a way to get on the board against a tough Northfield defense.
