High School Hoops: Lewiston-Altura v. Cotter girls on Thursday

The Lewiston-Altura girls basketball team will be looking to earn its second win of the season when they take on Cotter for High School Hoops on Thursday.

The Cardinals have not won since defeating Hope Lutheran 65-39 at the Lewiston Auto Holiday Basketball Tournament on December 29. L-A (1-17, 0-12 Three Rivers) have lost eight in a row and lost to Cotter 71-41 when the two teams squared off on December 8.

Cady Haili leads the team in scoring (7.2 points per game) and rebounding (6.7), while Blair Schilling and Emelia Schindeldecker score 6.6 and Mahsi Kamooneh 5.9 per. Schindeldecker also hauls down 4.4 rebounds per contest.

L-A have struggled to shoot the basketball this season, connecting on just 30.5 percent (242-for-792) of its shots from the floor and 49.1 percent (138-for-281) from the free throw line.

Cotter (13-6, 8-3) is second in the conference’s East division, thanks largely to strong rebounding. The Ramblers have three players — Mikala Nelton (6.3), Jane Koll (5.9) and Kirsten Weifenbach (5.6) — averaging more than five boards per game.

The bulk of Cotter’s scoring had been done by juniors Gabby Bowlin and Koll, who average 17 and 12.9 points per game, respectively. The tandem had combined for 6.6 steals per, as well. Bowlin is out with an injury, though, and won’t play.

Pat Bowlin’s squad have won four consecutive games.
