On-deck: Senior Night for SMU men’s basketball

The Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team will honor the departing Connor Kaiser, Mark Schumacher and Will Swiggum on Senior Night in the regular season home finale against Hamline on Wednesday.

SMU (8-15, 6-12 MIAC) have lost the first two of its three-game home stand, but will be looking to close out the season sweep of Hamline, following a 70-59 victory over the Pipers on January 20.

The Cardinals fell 75-67 to St. Olaf in their last action on January 13, a contest that saw the Redbirds knock down seven 3-pointers in the opening half to build a 42-25 lead at the break. However, St. Olaf knocked down nine triples of its own in the second half to hand SMU the loss.

Connor Kaiser scored a team-high 15 points to lead Saint Mary’s, while Bradley Hill dropped a career-high 14 and Wylie Ferron, Quashigm Smith-Pugh and Swiggum all accounted for 11.

Ferron also finished with a career-best 13 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.

Hamline (4-19, 2-16) are coming off of a 101-91, overtime loss to Gustavus Adolphus despite four players scoring in double figures. Zach Smith led the way with 31 points, Issac Brooks and Quinton Garvis each finished with 13 and T.C. Robinson contributed 10.

SMU (3-8 at home) host a Hamline squad which are just 2-9 on the road.
