Winona Chiefs broadcast schedule for 2016
HBC Sports will once again be your home for the Winona Chiefs amateur baseball team in 2016.
Beginning in late May, TV 25 will cover five games as the Chiefs take on Twin Rivers League rivals including the Wanamingo Jacks, Rochester Roadrunners and more.
Perennially strong on the mound, Winona posted a team earned run average of 2.85 a year ago, led by pitcher / head coach Lee Troncinski, who finished with a team best 2.42 ERA, 215 batters faced, one shutout and tied for the team lead with two complete games (Jesse Van Brunt).
Van Brunt tossed 48 1/3 innings and struck out a a club high 38 batters to go along with a 3.35 ERA.
At the plate, the Chiefs received strong performances from the quartet of Zach Benson, Owen Burnikel, John DeMarais and Jay Stensgaard.
Benson set the pace with five home runs, 31 runs batted in and tied with Stensgaard with 19 runs scored.
Burnikel led Winona with 17 walks, while DeMarais clubbed three triples with a .585 slugging percentage and Stensgaard paced the squad for hits (26), doubles (7), stolen bases (8), batting (.400), on-base percentage (.529) and batting average on balls in play (.473).
The Chiefs finished 13-3 last season to win the Twin Rivers League East Division.
