Chiefs opener suspended after 5 due to Malfunctioning Lights

Wednesday evening’s home opener for the Winona Chiefs was suspended after the fifth inning when a set of outfield lights failed.

The Chiefs were leading the Zumbrota Tigers 4-2 when play was suspended due to poor light conditions on the field. The game will be completed when the Chiefs and Tigers next meet July 24 in Zumbrota.

Winona plated four runs in the bottom of the third inning sending nine batters to the plate. Zumbrota pitcher AJ Yusten struck out seven Chiefs over 5-innings of work. Chiefs pitcher Lee Trocinski retired the final seven batters he faced.

Chiefs general manager Ryan Buhler said the lights had been checked last week and everything was in working order.

The Chiefs are off until June 1 when they host the Wanamingo Jacks in a 7:30 pm start at Gabryck Park. The game will also be broadcast live on HBC TV 25!
