Lewiston-Altura Repeats as Section 1A Baseball Champs

The Lewiston-Altura Cardinals captured their second consecutive Section 1A Baseball Championship with a 7-nothing win over Randolph Tuesday night at Mayo Field in Rochester.

L-A used strong pitching and stellar defense to return to the state tournament. On the mound, left-hander John Clobes threw seven shutout innings, striking out five, on the way to the win. In the outfield there were a series of highlight worthy plays. Center fielder Landon Kieffer and right fielder Spencer Spletz each made spectacular diving catches while left fielder Cullen Neeck threw out a runner at the plate . Second baseman Alex Brown also made the highlight reel after making a great catch in foul territory.

Offensively Neeck was 3-for-4, Dusty Knutson was 3-for-3, scoring two runs, and Alex Brown went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

The Cardinals will next play Thursday, June 16 in Chaska in a state quarterfinal match-up against a yet to be determined opponent.
