L-A’s season ends in Class A Consolation Finals with Loss, Brommerich named to All-Tournament Team

An exciting post-season playoff run by the Lewiston-Altura Cardinal baseball team ended with a loss 6-2 in the Class A Consolation Championship Final to Legacy Christian Academy at the Mini Met Friday.

The Cardinals got their first run in the second inning when John Clobes scored on a wild pitch. Clobes then pushed Hunter Brommerich across the plate with a sacrifice fly in the third inning knotting the game at 2-2. Legacy Christian Academy tacked on four unanswered runs to put the game away.

L-A had just two hits in the game while committing four errors. Clobes was tagged with the loss on the mound giving up four runs over three innings of work. Cullin Neeck came on in relief and pitched the final three innings. Neeck gave up two unearned runs on five hits.

This was the second trip to the MSHSL State Class A Baseball Tournament in as many years. The This year saw the Cardinals won their first ever game at the state level with a 5-0 win against Ely.

2017 will be a rebuilding year for L-A with 11 seniors graduating off the team. One of those seniors, Hunter Brommerich, was named to the MSHSL Class A All-Tournament Team at the shortstop position.
