Winhawks Win! State Bound!

For the first time since 1987, and only the second time in school history, the Winona Winhawk football team is headed to the state tournament after beating Kasson-Mantorville 44-13 Friday night in the Section 1AAAA title game at Mayo High School in Rochester.

Winona opened the scoring when junior quarterback Riley Bosteter found Dakota Matthees for a 32-yard touchdown on their opening drive. Bosteter had 230 passing yards for the night including a 75-yard fourth quarter scoring strike to Josh Bade that put the game away for the Winhawks.

Next Friday, the number-6 Winhawks (9-1) will open state tournament play facing number-one ranked South Saint Paul Packers (10-0) in the 1AAAA quarterfinal game to be played at East Ridge High School in Woodbury.

HBC TV 25 will replay Friday’s game Monday  at 7:00 pm. You can watch the game in high-definition on HBC ch. 525. Altura residents can watch in HD on channel 1025.
