NSIC Coaches Pick WSU Football #2 In Pre-Season Poll

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Minnesota State University, Mankato was selected by the league coaches as the overall and south division preseason favorite in the NSIC for 2018. The Mavericks received all 15 first place votes (coaches cannot vote for their own team) and amassed 225 points, 28 points ahead of Winona State (197), which garnered the other first place vote. Sioux Falls was a close third with 195 points while Minnesota Duluth was picked fourth overall with 194 points and was the unanimous choice in the north division.

The NSIC football schedule will be broken into two divisions (north/south). Each team will play 11 conference games that will count towards the NSIC Overall Championship as well as seven divisional games that will count towards the NSIC North/South Division Championships. In all, three league champions will be awarded (Overall Champion, North Division Champion, South Division Champion). Ties will not be broken for overall or division champions. New for the 2018 season, the four non-division games will be moved to weeks five through eight and divisional games will be weeks one through four and nine through 11.

The conference also announced their “Players To Watch” for the 2018 season.  The WSU Defensive Player To Watch is Senior Linebacker Nick Pridgeon, and the Offensive Player To Watch is Senior Wide Receiver Isaiah Frandsen.

Winona State will begin their season August 30th on the road at Wayne State at 6pm.  Their first home game of the season will be September 8 against Sioux Falls at 1pm, a game you can watch live on HBC TV 25 / HD 525.
