Wingers Soar Past Winhawks In Girls Basketball
Red Wing came into Tuesday’s Girls Basketball matchup with Winona, as the 4th ranked QRF team in Minnesota Class AAA, and showed why in a 92-29 victory over the host Winhawks.
The Wingers started fast out of the gate – 29-6 midway through the first half, and 53-12 at the break, and didn’t look back.
Red Wing connected on 17 3-pointers on the night, 5 each from Kyli Nelson and Lindsay Reps en route to the win.
Reps led all scorers with 26 points, while Nelson added 20. 8th Grader Sydnee Nelson, who had played in all 14 games this season and averaged 5.5 points per game, scored 14 off the bench. Dani Deming had 9 points, and Sydney Rahn chipped in 7.
Winona knew the Wingers would be a tough opponent coming into the game, but the Winhawks had some bright spots as well. Jaelyn Simmons led Winona with 10 points, and Phoenix Matthees had 7. Izzy Goettelman played some good minutes off the bench, and scored 4 points.
Red Wing (13-2, 9-2) will be off until January 19, when they host Rochester Mayo. Winona (3-11, 2-9) will host Northfield in their next game on Friday, January 18. High School Hoops on HBC will stay in Winona for our next broadcast on Thursday, January 17 as the Cotter Boys (4-10, 2-4) host St. Charles (9-3, 6-1) in a Three Rivers Conference crossover game from the John net Rec Center. Tip off is at 7:30pm.
