Winona, MN – The Hiawatha Broadband Communications, Inc (HBC) crews will again be busy this summer, continuing to construct and expand the cutting-edge fiber telecommunications network in the city of Red Wing.

Early work will include the neighborhoods between Hanson Avenue and Cannon View Drive. More neighborhoods on the early-summer list include Woodland Drive, Siewert Street, Perlich Avenue, and Neal Street, with the areas of Oakmont Lane, Camp Pearson Road and Cannonwood Drive soon to follow. Construction crews will also be busy near Spring Creek.

HBC’s roots are in a non-profit project begun in 1993, called Luminet℠. Luminet℠ connected Winona education, healthcare and government institutions to extend the reach of teaching and learning. In 1997, the success of Luminet℠ led to the formation of Hiawatha Broadband Communications, Inc. Today, HBC operates in 17 communities with 40 percent of its stock owned by non-profit entities.
