Winona, MN – Hiawatha Broadband Communications, Inc. (HBC) and Schurz Communications are proud to announce the creation of the $10,000 Dan Pecarina/HBC Scholarship, an annual award aimed at supporting undergraduate students at Winona State University (WSU). The scholarship will be available to eligible students majoring in Business Administration, Business Management, Human Resources Management, Management Information Systems, or Marketing.
“We are honored to offer this scholarship to help alleviate the financial challenges that students pursuing business degrees may face,” said Schurz Communications CEO, John Reardon. “Dan Pecarina has made a significant impact on both the local community and the university, and we believe this scholarship is a fitting tribute to his leadership and legacy.”
Dan Pecarina, who retired as President and General Manager of HBC on December 31, 2024, has deep ties to WSU. Prior to his tenure at HBC, he served as Chief Technology Officer at Winona State University, where he played a key role in merging academic and administrative computing systems and launching the university’s innovative laptop program. At HBC, Pecarina was instrumental in advancing the company’s growth as a leading provider of data, video, and voice services, helping expand Fiber-To-The-Premise networks and enhance broadband access in over 30 Minnesota communities.
The Dan Pecarina/HBC Scholarship will be administered through the Winona State University Foundation. Scholarship details and application information are available via the Foundation.
