Building a fiber-optic network takes months of planning—from network design and ordering of equipment to locating utilities and actual construction, there is a great deal of work to be done before we can connect your home to HBC fiber services.

Rest assured, our team is committed to working efficiently and ensuring the work is done right the first time around. Our goal is to keep you informed as we move through the process and get your home connected as quickly as possible.

Ready to sign up for HBC service? Click “Live Chat” in the bottom right corner to chat with us online, call us at (888) 474-9995, or stop by your local HBC office.

To connect your home to HBC services, a fiber-optic line (“drop”) is required and can be buried to your home while we are constructing the network. This will be done at no additional cost to you and will prepare your home to receive HBC services as soon as construction is complete.

During the colder months, a temporary drop can be installed to bring services to your home and will be buried in the spring when ground conditions allow.

Once boring and fiber drops are completed, crews will work to restore any mild lawn disturbances by smoothing out the soil and adding grass seed.

2025 Construction Progress Updates

11/11/25

Crews continue to make steady progress across Winona as Flight Fiber expands to even more neighborhoods!

PONs 23, 11, 3, 16, 15, and 9—Flight Fiber Internet service is available in these areas! If you haven’t already made the switch, now’s the perfect time—contact us to learn about the great offers available in your neighborhood.

PON 10—Splicing began a bit sooner than expected, which means services are also expected to be ready ahead of schedule—likely around the week of November 24.

PON 21—Aerial construction is still on track to begin November 13, with a tentative service release the week of December 1.

PON 22—Aerial construction will now begin the week of November 24, just a short delay from the original plan. We appreciate your patience as crews adjust schedules during this busy construction phase. Services are expected to be available the week of December 8.

PON 37—Aerial work is now expected to begin the week of November 24, with services tentatively scheduled for release the week of December 15.

Things are shaping up nicely in Winona—more neighborhoods are coming online each week as Flight Fiber expands to even more homes!

PONs 23, 11, 3, and 16—These areas are fully completed and have been released for Flight Fiber installations. If you haven’t already made the switch, now’s a great time to experience fast, reliable Internet built right here in Minnesota.

PONs 15 and 9—Both areas were officially released for service on October 31—great news for residents ready to get connected!

MISC—As the construction season wraps up, new drop bury requests will be paused. Requests received during this time will be scheduled for burial in the spring when conditions improve. In most cases, a temporary drop can be installed to ensure service to your home. We will make every effort to complete drop buries already on the schedule, as long as weather conditions allow.
